Thanks to the holidays, we sort of lost track of our mission, our goal, of putting out an issue a quarter. For that, we three founders apologise. But, we finally met again today, and made some decisions about our next issue.

Theme? Nostalgia

Mandatory? No way! Please feel free to contribute any writing, drawing, comic strips, etc, that belong under any heading, but a nostalgic piece will find its way into a special section.

Deadline? 1 February.

Please send any submissions to cacophonymag at gmail, because that’s where we check it! Feel free to contact any of us via facebook, email, telephone, fax, whatever floats your boat.

So production has wrapped up finally. We are printed, 15 first edition issues in full colour ready for viewing/purchasing/whatever else you do with cheap-ass content! And the best part is full colour is full, as opposed to the black and white we thought we were getting which is great news.

You all DEFINITELY need to see this happening on 12 November at Toquet Hall. We’re literally too stoked. Just come!

On 12 Nov., Toquet Hall will be hosting an event to promote the first issue of “Cacophony”. We will be having readings, question and answer sessions, and most importantly, be handing out the issue. More details to come soon!

After a brief hiatus, our three heroes met again today to discuss the magazine. Things are being lain out. We’re working on final drafts and last minute artwork. Things are really coming together and it’s very exciting— we might even have an open mic night sort of deal at Toquet Hall to promote it.

General public questions:

Would you want to contribute artwork for issue 1 of Cacophony? Wouldn’t that be cool?

Mel here. It’s real and unreal that this magazine finally has a name. Sort of like a lucid dream you wake up from, or when you wake up it’s really a false awakening and you dream you go downstairs to get some juice. This is what this magazine is really. Dream juice.

Carson, Carlie and I sat in silence in Doc’s Cafe today brainstorming different titles for this venture of ours- indieboard was an original one, Carlie suggested pickles, and we went through cellar, garage, and attic before we realised this isn’t the kitchen sink we’re talking about here. Sure there’s gonna be a lot of blood, sweat, tears, and thesaurus ink poured into this magazine, but primarily Cacophony is a vessel for the unpublished, the independent writers, those fed up with deadlines and assignments, to have their voices mix in with, well, the existing cacophony. “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.”

Give us your art and your angst and we’ll put it alongside our disapointed optimism. This magazine is us and you, working together to form a manuscript of our time. We are working to prove that indie is a misnomer, and we’re not all cut from the same cloth. We want to give voice to those who have none, whose three ring binders are filled with doodles and stories, not notes. This is a place to put them.
